My blood kills your blood!
Interesting thing we learned: When they test a donor to see if you are a match for a kidney transplant they take don't necessarily match blood type(although it helps)they do a tissue typing. Some of your blood is mixed with some of the donors cells and this is called a cross match. If it is positive that is not a good thing because that means you are not compatible because cytotoxic antibodies will attack the organ. So Jason thinks it is funny and when someone is tested if they dont match he is going to tell them that his blood kills their blood. The testing is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ they won't tell us but apparently it is such that they will only test one at a time. They keep testing as long as they have a donor but they don't want to find a donor and then waste the money on the others. Best case scenerio is if we started now it would be a year. If we found one by Sept. We can't start the screening process until he is stable and that will take 2 months. So all those who want to do this we will let you know when we know. There is also screening done for the donors. Blood it taken you will have testing done to your heart to make sure it is strong enough. If you want to be a donor you have to not drink or smoke and you need to be as physically fit as possible. You don't have to be a gym guru but you do need to be fit and able to heal. Something else cool is one of Jason's scouts who is a 13 year old boy expressed his desire to donate. It really touched us. I asked about that and they said that it is actaully a good thing because the kidney is young and it will grow into J! So that is cool.
